More dolls and birds

The birds have found the suet feeder now.

Mom had a busy day today.  She got a call from her sister, Bonnie, and in honor of the Fourth of July, she's been watching Ken Burn's documentary "National Parks."

Aunt Bonnie has sent us a story about her life to read, and Mommy and I are probably going to read it together tomorrow.  I was going to read it today, but the fellows are here and underfoot and so we'll wait for tomorrow.

Mom's gotten a little sick of the dolls.  She was complaining to me that they never say a word.  So, I took them off the bed.  (She was fussing at them.)

Here is a pic of her earlier today just before she got frustrated at the dolls.

Hope you've all had a wonderful Fourth!

Mom loves these crazy dolls

This morning when I came in to check on her, Mom was busy trying to fix this doll's hair.  She kept asking him: "What happened to you, huh?"  I managed to get a pic of that mid-sentence here.

Here she is trying to smooth down his crazy mop of a head.

The two pics above were taken quite early this morning when I first went in to wake her and to give her her meds and applesauce.  The picture below was taken a few minutes ago after she took her Friday shower.

So far, so very good, today.

Dozing through the thunder storms

Mommy's dozing this afternoon. It's thundering like the wrath of God outside, but it's not troubling her at all. (The dog is terrified, but Mom is happily dozing and waking and then dozing again. She always did like thunder storms.)

Yesterday, she asked to get out of bed for the first time in I don't even know how long, but the timing was bad. David had an appointment. Stephan is in Virginia, and Amanda is dogsitting. So, there would have been nobody to help me lift her back into bed. I called Jeanie and told her how guilty I was feeling, and she laughed at me. She said that Mom has some sort of radar that allows her to ask to do something that you've been wanting her to do for days or weeks just when you can't help her do it. (This is like little children have.) Jeanie said that she'd be trying to get mom to something, like go outside, day after day she'd try to get her to want to do that. (If she doesn't want to do something, she won't - who can blame an eighty year old woman for that?). Anyway, Jeanie said that she'd try and try to get mom to go outside, and then, on the very day when it would be impossible to be out there with her, then she'd get all interested in going outside. I guess this is a lesson that we can't always do what we wish we could for mom. Life happens around us, and we just do our best.

Mom loves to watch the birds at the bird feeder.

Here is what she sees.

Piggy Birds

Mommy and I have decided to name the birds who visit her feeder "piggy birds".

Stephan filled this yesterday evening, and it's already more than half gone.

Long time no see

Hi All,

Sorry I've been neglecting the blog.  I promise I haven't been neglecting Mom, though.

So much has been going on, and every day for weeks now, I mean to restart blogging, but it's easy to put off today a thing that got put off yesterday.  But, if I keep up like this, there will never be another post tomorrow!

This morning, I watched a video that Brian sent me, and my heart just broke.  I felt that I MUST share it, and here is the link for it:
