Happy 59th, Daddy and Mommy!

  1. Last night, Mommy asked, "What's Ike up to, anyway?" And I answered, "I don't know. We'll prolly find out soon enough." Then she said, "I hope so, because I really want to know what he's up to."
I never tell her, anymore, that Daddy is gone. There's no reason to break her heart over and over and over again, but isn't it beautiful that even through the ravages of this horrible disease, she thinks of Daddy and longs for him still.

  2. Also, the ring cutter came yesterday. It was shipped DHL, and so I thought that it would probably come at one of the last possible days . . . I haven't had speedy experience with DHL, but it came on the first possible day, and Stephan and I cut Mom's wedding ring from her finger. It was such an emotional experience that I felt weak and dizzy afterward.

I was just so glad that it came before today - that I didn't have to cut off her ring on her wedding anniversary and that she didn't have to be in pain because of it on her anniversary. The pain in her finger was becoming bad. I had to massage it a lot and she talked about it quite a bit. But, it's over now, and I think that Daddy put in a good word or a prayer to speed the DHL truck along and I really felt like he was guiding my hands as I helped Stephan use the tool. We didn't cut her even though the tool is very scary and a cut when a person is on a strong blood thinner is nothing to mess about with.

I was shocked at how deep the grove was where the ring had been cutting into her finger. She massages it a lot now, and she says to me, "I think it's going to be okay now."

  3. I'm glad that you were able to get the ring off. I hope her finger gets better soon.

It is sweet that grandma remembers grandpa still!!! I miss him a LOT!!!! I love that picture of grandma and grandpa! Do you know if that is the dress grandma wore for her wedding ceremony?

  4. I am glad you got the ring off too. I was concerned about it (as was the dr here). Whenever we would mention it, mom would say she was never taking it off. While it is good to want to keep it on, her health comes first and with the ring or not, dad is still on her heart and mind that is obvious! As far as the dress goes I am thinking she had a solid tan skirt and I am not sure about the top for the wedding. Anyone else know? I remember holding it up when I was very young and thinking how tiny her waist must have been. Well I am exhausted so off to bed for me! Love you all!

  5. I think that it got way worse in the last week. I don't know why. But, at least she was ready to take it off. I can't imagine taking it off if she wanted it on :-(

  6. I just remembered something Mariah and I decided a couple years a ago. We have agreed that grandpa was not just cute when he was young, he was HOT! And he was still very handsome when he was older. :) I miss him so much!!!

  10. Haha! :) I never thought that but I thought mom was pretty and dad looked like Elvis in the old pics. I thought it was cool that my dad looked like Elvis! Of course now I know he doesn't, that was when I was a little girl. :)
